Dr Shehara Gunasekara is a practicing Consultant Psychiatrist.
During his service in the public health sector, Dr Gunasekara’s role as consultant included that of teacher and supervisor for medical students from the Adelaide University Medical School as well as registrars, resident medical officers and interns. This teaching centred around psychiatric assessments and documentation, clinical placement, outpatient appointments, home and aged care facility visits and electroconvulsive therapy.
Dr Gunasekara has clinical experience including capacity assessments and being involved in guardianship, community and inpatient treatment orders and appeal hearings. He collaborates with other medical disciplines, families, guardians and external agencies such as support and NDIS providers and residential care facility staff to best ensure holistic care of the patients he engages with.
He is currently providing assessments in areas such as medical reports for citizenships,Australian Tax office, Licensing authorities, WorkCover and Compulsory Third Party Insurance. His experience in undertaking independent medico-legal assessments to date enables him to provide objective, evidence based and timely reports to be used as legal evidence.
